Wall Street kicked off the week on the back foot as rising geopolitical tensions and resurfacing inflation fears sapped risk appetite. The S&P 500 fell 0.52% to 7,745.06, while the Dow Jones dropped 0.51% to 53,459.78 and the Nasdaq limited its losses to 0.32% to close at 26,644.91. Small-caps also stumbled, with the Russell 2000 retreating 0.35% to 3,057.54. The VIX volatility index jumped 6.60% to 15.19 amid climbing oil prices and a 10-year Treasury yield that hit 4.72%.

- Energy & Safe Havens: WTI Crude surged 3.07% to $84.93 a barrel after Iran threatened regional escalation if U.S. diplomacy fails, sparking fears of a Strait of Hormuz closure. Gold also caught a haven bid, climbing 0.80% to 4,472.6.
- AI Infrastructure: Strong Q3 results from Applied Materials and a massive $190B-$200B revenue forecast from Anthropic bolstered AI sentiment. This drove market-leading gains in Special Industry Machinery, NEC (+3.44%) and Computer Storage Devices (+2.81%).
