Wall Street experienced a sharply divided session on Tuesday as investors aggressively rotated out of technology and into cyclical value. The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record high, climbing 0.64% to 51,999.67, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq tumbled 1.15% to 26,376.344 and the broader S&P 500 shed 0.57% to 7,511.35. Small caps also struggled, with the Russell 2000 sliding 0.87% to 2,939.195, while the VIX ticked up 1.30% to 16.41 and Gold edged 0.03% higher to 4,353.1 ahead of a pivotal central bank Wednesday.
Sectors in focus:
- Tech & AI Retreat: Semiconductors & Related Devices plunged 5.09% as megacap AI leaders faced heavy profit-taking and valuation concerns. Radio & TV Broadcasting & Communications Equipment also lagged, dropping 3.55%.
- Energy Tumble: WTI Crude plummeted 4.39% to 3-month lows at $75.95 following a preliminary US-Iran peace deal and an MOU to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This geopolitical shift dragged the Drilling Oil & Gas Wells industry down 3.73%.
- Industrial Strength: Cyclical rotation boosted Electrical Industrial Apparatus (+2.96%) and General Industrial Machinery & Equipment (+1.77%). Interestingly, Heavy Construction Other Than Bldg Const - Contractors gained 1.63% even as US Housing Starts hit a 6-year low of 1.177 million and Building Permits missed estimates.

- June 17: The FOMC interest rate decision and press conference. Markets are pricing a 95% chance of holding rates at 3.50%-3.75% during Kevin Warsh's first meeting as Fed Chair. The UK May Inflation (CPI) report is also due.
